The Eyes Have It
Macleay Optics at 107D Macleay Street is a Potts Point institution. It has been owned and operated by Maryanne Dajkovich for about twenty years; originally in partnership with her late husband, Optometrist, Chris Dajkovich.
Maryanne has remained entranced with the area through the years, principally by the kindness of the Potts Point community and the people who comprise it as well as by the architectural features of the area.
Maryanne is a member of the Art Deco Society and the 20th Century Heritage Society. She designed the fittings of Macleay Optics to complement and pay homage to the local residences and apartments. It includes features such as oak herringbone parquet floors, entry mosaics, polished chrome accents, Art Deco cornices and decadent wallpaper. The light fittings are originals saved from a local period home. Banquette furnishings are in a dark teal, plush velvet.
With her three helpful, enthusiastic team members including the expert clinician optometrist Amir Hali, who teaches Optometry at the University of New South Wales, Macleay Optics caters for all things optical.
Maryanne’s love of design guides her spectacle and sunglass ranges. She keeps over 700 unique frames on hand, many one of a kind.
“Our eyes are a crucial part of our health system and should be checked every 12 months as part of a regular check-up”, advises Ms Dajkovich.
To bring out the best in her staff she gives them autonomy and acknowledges their unstinting work in providing the best customer service.
