HOW MY GARDEN GROWS
A community is built around what is has and enjoys in common.
One of those things is its enjoyment of its natural landscape and fostering its productive uses.
Sydney Council has created a community garden in Lawrence Hargrave Reserve at 2a Elizabeth Bay Road, Elizabeth Bay, o be shared by locals.
Trish Howe, a local resident for 12 years and a community garden member for three years says “I am impressed with how well the concept has been embraced by locals who have shared their common knowledge and expertise.”
The garden has 60 types of plants including a free herb garden/farm, all using organic methods, which locals can use for their own “farm to fork-style” table salads.
It has gardens for bush food, kitchen plants, a potager and tree tendering.
Locals can produce their own produce and give new life and drama to their local landscape. It’s a place to relax and unwind and apply unending enthusiasm in good weather and bad.
It shows human beings can make a difference in ordering nature at a time when rewilding and upturning is all the rage. It’s good to be reminded that most of our landscaping is made by us and that the raw materials of nature of nature can create harmony that refreshes and heals
