Jay Lyon has an enviable occupation. He is surrounded by stimulating art. His new gallery Art + Gallery at 81 Macleay Street Potts Point in the Ikon building is bristling with international iconic fine art photography, modern contemporary, blue chip pop art and sculptures by genius French sculptor, Christian Maas.
Jay has been an art dealer for the past decade and has a background in music, film and photography.
“Music and art are closely linked. Both express what’s going on in popular culture around us and that is important,” he says.
“Art is rated the number one tangible asset investment, better than cars, wine and watches. It is a hedge against rising inflation,” he notes, adding “art is 100% tax deductible for businesses in Australia”.
The gallery’s location is perfect with 210 square metres of prime exposure right on Macleay Street in the midst of cafes and restaurants and high-rise apartments. The gallery’s mascot, “Teddy” the petit French bulldog tacitly agrees.
Jay says Art Plus is deliberately designed to be inclusive and unlike traditional galleries isn’t formal or snobby. “It brings people together in a relaxed setting,” he says. And locals have been enthusiastic, flocking to absorb the art as they stroll pass daily.
He ships items overseas and interstate and provides a service that includes framing, delivery, installation and hanging items to showcase them in clients’ homes.
