Dane Rumble’s new diamond and jewellery shop, Culét Diamonds, at 4B, 50 Macleay Street is like its owner; a refined brilliant cut specimen with some cheek, chic, pose and poise.

He’s been here in Potts Point for two months and is “absolutely loving it”, he says. He is originally from Herne Bay, a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand, with its upmarket shopping scene along Jervois Road, and high-end boutiques selling Kiwi designer fashions and specialist stores dealing in NZ wines and chocolate. He is now settled in Cronulla with his new family and two young children.

He specialises in diamond engagement rings and wedding bands for 25-35 year olds but can design a stunning ring for anyone. His experience as a musician and composer gives his custom jewellery designs something symphonic. They sing out a melody that both reflect and refract light and a couple’s love for each other.

Each composition takes about 2-3 weeks and is completed in-house according to the customer’s budget. The precious diamonds are sourced from New York, Hong Kong and India with moulds produced by a local supplier.

The most popular shaped diamond is the Brilliant cut mounted on a nine carat band of 18 carat gold or platinum. The fire-like colours radiate like a rainbow producing an mesmerising display.

Dane took the name Culét (pronounced koo-lay) from the French which is the base or pointy end of a diamond. He says his three criteria for good design include structural integrity, proportion to the hand and use of superb materials. He’s made over 1,500 rings to date. He also sells his own watch brand for men, Creux Automatiq, which is sold in over 2,000 outlets world-wide. The boutique itself is a masterclass in design with its French limestone trencadis patterned walls, silver baroque-framed mirrors and tuxedo chairs in cream leather and polished aluminium by Max Sparrow bespoke design.

He intends to remain in Potts Point for the long term and looks forward to forging

relationship with his customers.
