EUGENE’S CAFÉ, FOOD STORE & TAKE-HOME MEALS
Nestled in the fulcrum of the Kings Cross police station and the heritage-listed Fitzroy Gardens and its famous “dandelion” fountain is a new eatery with a twist, Eugene’s.
It’s been open for six weeks.
Its entrance fits snugly within the loggia of the heritage Kingsley Hall Art Deco apartment building and faces north to embrace the mid-morning warmth of the Winter sunshine.
Cute bar tables with flower baskets and outside tables with umbrellas set the mis èn scene.
Inside, the intimate ambience is created with á la mode petite purple pouffes and raw brickwork; very Potts Point.
And yes, there is actually a real-life Eugene. Eugene Geisinger is its hand-on founder and works in the outlet and its brother eatery in Bronte.
Eugene loves the area and has already built up a loyal following.
Popular items include smooth coffee with a loyalty card system, small-batch muesli with secret spices, berry scones, banana smoothies, pumpkin soup, fresh sandwiches, pies, bacon and egg rolls with home-made hollandaise sauce. Take-away items are available daily from 4pm to 7pm with daily updates listed on facebook.
All meals are freshly-cooked and carefully sealed to ensure maximum flavour and include English-style fish and potato pie, North African lamb tagine, and Coconut curry (mild) chicken, for example.
Assistant, Zeynap and chef, Solav constantly aim to please and look for improvements.
“We’re so pleased our loyal customers are happy, especially during these difficult times. A big thank-you to them all,” says Eugene, as he carries more condiments and supplies to and from the shop.
