KATE NIXON – DESIGN STUDIO & STORE
Kate Nixon is driven. She is passionate about improving our well-being and believes interior design positively influences our moods, emotions, health and relationships.
Beauty is healing.
She says “a successful interior evokes feelings of comfort, safety and authenticity, creating everyday joy.
Good design is where you can appreciate the essence of a space, a physical feeling of peace and joy. It incorporates a harmonic blend of form, materials, function and soul.”
She been a designer since 2004 opening her first store in 2007 in Double Bay.
She learnt from her previous occupations as Houses Editor and Interiors Editor of Australian House & Garden magazine.
She began importing artisan Italian linens from Busatti, Tuscan weavers since 1842, after discovering them during a 2006 Italian holiday. She admires their heritage and work ethic saying “their incredible, shuttle loomed linens are both rustic and refined. There is no other linen brand in the world matching their quality and care. Their products are endorsed by prestigious clients such as Prada, Armani and Cucinelli.”
She moved into Bayswater Road, Rushcutters Bay in 2020. She has always loved the neighbourhood and fell in love with the boutique’s late 1800s storefront. She has created an inspiring space with a calm authenticity to delight clients, offering custom soft furnishings, decorating and interior design services and other bon bons. The Dolce & Gabbana nougat is heaven in a carefully coiffured container.
And local media agree christening the store as “the most beautifully curated store in the east.”
Her boutique offers a curated collection of her latest ideas, custom made products and hand-picked finds. Shoppers can also select from her inspiring studio projects and add layers of significance and interest to their homes. After all, it’s better to have style rather than merely being in style.
She champions both local and international brands. Clients discover furniture, art, ancient fragrances and body care from Santa Maria Novella Florence, the world’s oldest pharmaceutical company established in 1221, cashmere throws, beautiful lighting, objet d’art and Angela Caputi jewellery, whose resin jewellery is considered art in its own right. Caputi jewellery expresses femininity and eternity designed through a modern lens utilising traditional Florentine hand-crafted technologies.
Kate Nixon’s design talents have that rare gift of genius, the ability to create something from nothing which is new. She realises that passion is the genesis of genius.
And genius attracts an atelier of other talents. “We have an incredible team of talent, a treasured network of gifted trades, artisans and suppliers and a client roster of intelligent, kind and inspiring humans whom we are privileged to serve,” she says.
She says she is privileged to serve her clients.
Her design studio and store is in the quiet fulcrum of Bayswater Road, Rushcutters Bay.
