Under their banner of “Love Over Hate” the Wayside Chapel, 31 Hughes Street, Potts Point, provides unconditional love, care and support to people experiencing homelessness, income deprivation, addiction, mental and medical health issues and social isolation in Kings Cross, Bondi Beach and beyond.

Its programmes ensure that the all members of the community have access to essential health, welfare, social and recreational services, as well as a place to feel welcome.

The  Wayside Chapel Op shops are an essential part of its ethos.

Its Op shop social enterprises operate out of Potts Point and North Bondi as well as online to allow the community to purchase a large range of quality pre-loved, eclectic fashions, household wares and affordable designs at low cost.

This includes everything from kitchenware, suits, hats, scarves, pot plant holders, jumpers, sunglasses, shoes, boots and dresses.

The Wayside Chapel says its Op Shops “allow customers to shop ethically and look good, do good and feel good knowing that every dollar spent goes straight back into Wayside’s services to help vulnerable members of our community.”

“We think it’s important to limit the amount of clothing and items that end up in landfill. Donating and shopping with our Op shops allows the community to jazz up their wardrobe without using additional manufacturing and carbon emission resources.”

“We are passionate about giving items a second home. Contributing to slowing down the fast fashion demands is a small step towards creating a better and more sustainable environmental future for us all.”

The Op Shop relies on the generosity of the public to it stocked throughout the year. Donating pre-loved items reduces waste and encourages donors to feel good knowing they are helping someone less fortunate.

Items can be donated at the shops’ donation bins. Regular donors receive a letter of recognition which can be used for tax purposes.
