Le Labo is a new perfumery in Macleay Street Potts Point which believes that there are too many bottles of perfume and not enough soulful fragrances.

The perfume emanating from this shop is intoxicating. That’s because each fragrance is freshly formulated and made in their own lab in-store for each particular customer. It mimics its 22 Elizabeth Street, New York and Bondi Beach stores.

Le Labo opened in Macleay Street in September and Jasmin, the Manager, says “the response has been overwhelmingly very positive. We have been warmly welcomed into the Potts Point community.”

All the perfumes are genderless and are freshly blended in store.
Each label is made to order and is personalised for each person. Needless to say these are very popular and personal. They are printed in a vintage font to match the heritage ambience of the shop.

The shop design is beguiling and completely unique. It is based on an a rare, ancient Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi, whose philosophy is essentially imperfection, impermanence and the incomplete.
Its values incorporate an inherent beauty of things modest and humble, even out of ugliness, and with a focus on the intrinsic.

A very large wooden rough rustic table from a vintage warehouse collection in Mascot with its missing vice is the centrepiece. A large metal basin was imported from the USA. A superb Korean industrial copper and brass overhead light made by Daeyong and imported from the Netherlands is suspended overhead with its large snake-like coiled single filament. It is intriguing. The imperfect walls reveal a palimpsest of missing crazed tiles, pieces of old wallpaper and different coloured paint layers.
A large metal floor safe built for Hoffnung and Co. sits silently in the corner waiting to be adaptively re-used somehow.
The concept is very hip, chic and intellectually sophisticated.

There are 17 fragrances available, massage and bath perfumes, body lotions, scented candles even aromatic notebooks. Popular discovery gift sets of five or 17 glass test tubes are also available.
