Pomeroy apartments is one of the first apartment blocks built in Macleay Street which lead to the re-emergence of one of the area as a prime residential location for those seeking stylish and spacious homes in an apartment setting.

Designed by Corben Architects with its Tuscan columns, sandstone façade, marble entry foyer, generous patio and large swimming pool and gym and ground floor book shop, its 39 apartments and design has attracted awards including the NSW UDIA Medium Density Housing Award 2004, the National UDIA Medium Density Housing Award 2005, the NSW MBA Award for Construction Excellence 2005.

It was formerly the site of the Chateau Commodore. It takes its Pomeroy name from a previous 19th century heritage house, once part of the Elizabeth Bay House original estate, on the same site. Its owner or their family may have been connected with Pomeroy Castle or Devonshire, England.

The site became part of a transformation of the area as various hotels converted to apartments including the Rex Hotel, the Sebel Town House hotel, the Fountain Hotel, the Gazebo Hotel, the Kingsview Hotel, the Landmark Hotel, Madison on Ward Hotel, the Manhattan Hotel, the New Hampshire Hotel, the Millennium Hotel and the Top of the Town Hotel.

In June 2018 Pomeroy set a record for one of the most expensive apartments in Sydney. An apartment on level one sold for over $10 million, setting a new benchmark for luxury home sales locally thanks to strong downsizer demand.

Its carved sandstone entrance-way lintel is an example of fine workmanship reflecting the past for living today.
