Gettering better and feeling better have suddenly become a lot easier. Opening last week just off Victoria Street, Potts Point in Earl Place, is the 1Remedy wellness centre. 

If the therapy doesn’t make you feel better and reinvigorate you, the chic decor will. 

1Remedy uses the stablished medicinal methods of contrast therapy.  

Contrast therapy involves alternating hot and cold  treatments. The practice has many fans, including athletes who say it gets them back in the game faster. 

The key to contrast therapy is in the rapid changes produced in your circulatory system when you go from very warm to very cold temperatures. 

Different temperatures cause changes in how fast your heart beats. 

When you rapidly alternate between hot and cold immersions, your blood vessels open and close in a pulsing, pump-like motion. Some proponents think this pumping action can help relieve various injury symptoms. Athletes have found that contrast hydrotherapy helps alleviate fatigue. 

At 1Remedy customers relax in a hot sauna then move to cold water tub via the shower and back again three times after rest periods. Some wear a special conical felt cap in the sauna provided to prevent excessive heat build up in the head. The beauty of this therapy is you don’t have to actually do anything; no push ups, dumb bells or weights. 

“Three rounds is sufficient to feel re-energised,” says Dave Darvill, the owner and manager. He’s been in the fitness industry for over 10 years. 

1Remedy has a cap on the number of customers to 20 due to space constrictions.  

And a  designer built water station with lemon water is on stand-by. The whole space has been architecturally designed for a maximum catharsis. The designer, Tina Cha, has featured in both Vogue and Forbes magazines. The entrance foyer is in soft-coloured smooth crazy paving, the curtains are linen, heritage sandstone is retained, copious amounts of warm wood on surfaces and the lockers contrast with rich wooden tubs and an enclosed rain garden, all adding to the overall serenity. 

Customers leave rejuvenated, reinvigorated and re-energised.
